Jimmy at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass

June 21st, 2008

Jimmy and Moondi have been on the road opening for Emmylou Harris promoting their new "2:10 Train" CD for a week now. With four gigs under their belts to date, things couldn't be going better. They are looking forward to the "home town gig" at Wolf Trap Farm Park Sunday night. Here they are with Emmylou outside the dressing room after the Chicago gig:

The new CD continues to get excellent reviews and the title track was one of the ten selections for the USA Today playlist on April 22nd: "What more could you ask from a bluegrass tune? A train, a prison and a mandolin player who cops riffs from Sweet Home Alabama." (By the way, while Jimmy and Moondi are on the road with Emmylou, they'll be researching material for duo CD #2!)

The Country Gentlemen Reunion Band's CD "Adcock, Gaudreau, Waller, and Gray" is now available through the MandeauMart. It has also been getting good reviews and is a must-have for all Gentlemen fans -- as Tom Henderson of WNMF in Tampa says, it is "an instant classic".

Jimmy and Stuart Martin, who engineered the "2:10 Train" CD, have partnered to create the new Stonebridge Records of Virginia label. The label's first release will be a vintage studio project of Kevin Church, Wyatt Rice, Jimmy, along with Ernie Sykes and Warren Blair, that was recorded in preparation for their 1987 European tour. (During that tour the Bluegrass Unit "Live in Holland" project was recorded.) The CD will be release later this year. Of course, it will be available right here at the MandeauMart.

Jimmy is still hard at work on his instrumental album, which will consist solely of tunes he has written. The project has been underway for some time and it appears that progress will be slowed (but not stopped!) due to the summer tours opening for Emmylou Harris with Moondi.

Jimmy continues to enjoy playing with his new toys (a bouzouki & an octave mandolin) from Trinity College Instruments. He's even used the octave mandolin on some of his recent gigs.

The performance page is up to date and include the Emmylou Harris tour dates.
